Controversial Essay on Space Exploration

The Benefits of Space Exploration Since the Wright Brothers took off from the ground during the dawn of the last century, mankind’s gaze has turned towards the skies and beyond. People were no longer earth bound. The year 1969 was another great landmark, as back then man left earth and set foot on another celestial body. A few years later, two unmanned probes were launched to leave the solar system and go in search of other civilizations. All of these great leaps in space exploration have showcased the relentless pursuit of man in furthering his understanding of the universe that he lives in. There have been some people who have criticized the government for making use of billions of tax payers’ dollars in space exploration. They feel that the money could have been used for other more urgent and needy issues. But what they may not realize is that space exploration has a lot of relevance to things on earth. The study of meteorology, for instance, has received a major boost from our ability to launch satellites into orbit and monitor the earth’s atmosphere through them. We are, therefore, able to make better weather forecasts with the help of the eye in the sky. Another very relevant use of satellites is the

Theoretical Concept or Management Fashion free essay sample

Theoretical Concept or Management Fashion? Examining the Significance of IMC Particularly throughout the last decade Integrated Marketing Communications (IMC) appeared to have found increasing acceptance as a theoretical concept, Idea, technique, or simple rhetoric with advertising agency executives, marketing, and advertising practitioners, as well as with writers in the popular and academic marketing and management press.Despite its pervasive penetration in the marketing and communication management world, little has been said, however, about IMCs theoretical robustness as well as its actual significance for marketing and advertising thought and practice. In an attempt to help remedy this situation, this articie examines IMC as a body of theory and hypothesizes its influence upon practice—as a theoretical concept, general idea, management technique, or simple rhetoric. Also, with new media and technological advances in marketing abounding, writers have ever since deliberated upon the drastic changes that are (and will be) appearing in communication practices as well as in the marketing and advertising industry as a whole (e. We will write a custom essay sample on Theoretical Concept or Management Fashion? or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page g. , Zinkhan and Watson, 1996). These writers subsequently see the concept of IMC as a manifest outcome of this transformation of marketing communications in the 1980s (e. g. , Schultz, 1996a, 1999).Second, Phelps et al. s (1996) remark also evokes the widely shared belief that IMC is a sort of overall, inclusive approach to marketing communications rather than being refined to singular aspects of marketing commurucations, e. g. , a consensus style in decision making or a form of seamless communication, i. e. , a consistency in marketing messages (e. g. , Haytko, 1996; Schultz, 1996a, 1999). In doing so, however, IMC defies definition and perhaps becomes a too generic view, leading some to proclaim that the term has become meaningless. It died because we never could decide if it was a tool to help sell advertising and public relations agency services or if it was a true, concrete communications discipline (Drobis, 1997, cited in Wightman, 1999). DEBATES ON THE THEORETICAL ROBUSTNESS OF IMC and signifiers of the company or brand is indeed fairly undisputed, the criticism and challenge raised by these authors is thus whether IMC is just nominal, representing no significant change in difference to traditional thought and practices. This debate over the boundaries and actual significance of IMC theory is still extant, adding to and illustrating the importance of drawing out the significance of IMC in practice. Devotees of IMC have espoused a number of counterarguments to the above criticism, each of which does not appear to fully counteract it. First, IMC devotees have argued that IMC is directly related to the changes in marketing communications, i. e. , the logical outcome of these changes: a historicist argument that would implicate that the IMC concept is not a management fad.Schultz (1999), for example, argued that IMC is the natural evolution of mass-market media advertising to targeted direct marketing—from socalled inside-out to outside-in communication planning and execution. In his view, IMC is seen as a logical and historical progression In marketing communications: it appears to be the natural evolution of traditional mass-media advertising, which has been changed, adjusted and refined as a result of new technology (Schultz, 1999).Equally, other authors have picked up on this argument and have considered IMC as a transitory period between the old, historical, product-driven, outbound marketing systems and the new, informativedriven, interactive, consumer-focused marketplaces of the 21st century (Eagle et al. , 1999; Kitchen, 1999; Kitchen and Schultz, 1999). The difficulty with this historicist argument is, however, that conceptualizing and equating IMC with a particular periodization is not at all selfevident and is even problematic where a view of IMC as an omnipresent change is again too generic to be meaningful.Miller and Rose (1994), Wolter (1993), and Hutton (1996), among others, contend that marketing, advertising, and public relations practitioners had been adept at coordinating their efforts long before the term IMC came into vogue. Given that the importance of using multiple media, coordinating them, and having them consistent in their appeals IMC. I What, thus, is not being measured here is the concept described but instead the subjects perceptions of that concept.

Nationalism and its 19th Century History from a Moral and Functional Perspective

The idea of nationalism surfaced during the 1789 French Revolution. This period saw the dawn of the earliest nation-state. France took advantage of its state and nation correspondence, although, other countries had not made any use of the same.Advertising We will write a custom research paper sample on Nationalism and Its 19th Century History from a Moral and Functional Perspective specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More France used nationalism to unite the state against its enemies, and this showed the morality of nationalism. Conversely, Germany used nationalism to unite and disintegrate the state, at the same time. It sought to unite its single states while not asserting its supremacy over other states, directly. Germany tried to declare its authority over other states only once after it became self-aware. However, Germany faced resistance from other European nations. Therefore, Germany showed both â€Å"good† and â€Å"badâ⠂¬ sides of nationalism, or functional basis of nationalism (Kramer 24). T his paper evaluates nationalism and its 19th-century history on a moral and functional basis. The paper first describes the nature and history of nationalism. Next, it shows nationalism from a functional and moral basis using Germany and France as the two case studies. Nature and History of Nationalism Nationalism, as mentioned earlier, emerged during the 19th century after French Revolution. Other factors that contributed to the rise of nationalism, in this period included economic reasons, literacy and class divisions. Some scholars classify nationalism into â€Å"good† and â€Å"bad† nationalism. However, nationalism cannot be termed as â€Å"good† or â€Å"bad† just like capitalism, imperialism, and socialism (Urban 5). Scholars who support good nationalism limit it to the meaning that nationalists try to create, or uphold their own country and that the figure of nationalists can correspond to the countries that exist (Urban 5).Advertising Looking for research paper on history? Conversely, â€Å"bad† nationalism created a negative name for nationalism since actors like Milosevic and Adolf Hitler had undesirable traits. This form of nationalism eroded an individual’s superior race or nation against all others in trying to survive. Earlier on, Europeans used â€Å"bad† nationalism in their perceptions towards people who lived in their colonies. Germany In 1815, German states formed a union to control France, although it was clear that unions amid German states would not last due to difficulties in the power balance. Ahead of Bismarck’s reign, the unification of Germany followed a democratic process. However, Bismarck unified Germany using â€Å"blood and iron† (Wahr 6). He left Germany under the control of the King of Prussia as the country became a part of Prussia. Thus, Bismarck’s agenda for uniting Germany was cruel and selfish. In 1862, Bismarck joined with Austria in a war against Denmark to exorcise it from Schleswig (Wahr 7). However, in 1864, Bismarck betrayed Austria through helping Italy in getting the Austrian property in Italy and driving out Austria’s control from the German union. Moreover, Bismarck destabilized Austria by supporting the independence of Hungary in the newly formed Austria-Hungary union. Germany became an empire, in 1871 after the Prussia-French war came to an end. Again, the chief goal of nationalism was not unification. While earlier generations of Germans wished to build a legitimate and democratic nation, united Germany did not have similar ideals (Kissinger 133). It mirrored no ea rlier line of German philosophy as the country had grown into a diplomatic compact amid German royals and not a liberal state.Advertising We will write a custom research paper sample on Nationalism and Its 19th Century History from a Moral and Functional Perspective specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More The kingdom got its power from Prussia, and not from the code of independence (Kissinger 133). However, Bismarck maintained that he was uniting Germans, and abstained from unification after he noticed that it was impractical. Power politics influenced Bismarck’s actions, although, it was clear that Germany would have disintegrated, devoid of a feeling of nationalism. Leaders, who came after Bismarck, lacked his self-constraint, and they made efforts to expand beyond the borders of the nation. France Nationalism in France was liberal since the time of Napoleon I. When France held elections Napoleon III won with a wide gap compare d to the other four presidential candidates, although, his party had never participated in politics. Several factors contributed to this result. First, Napoleon’s uncle was popular among the romantics, who saw him as a demigod. Second, peasants and middle-class workers wanted a strong leader to protect urban workers. Third, Napoleon had a clear agenda for France, which got elaboration in two booklets. Ahead of the elections, these booklets, which mainly contained his broad ideas and poverty eradication, were in circulation. Lastly, Napoleon held that the government had a duty to protect citizens and enhance their economic potential. This could be only achieved through a powerful, authoritarian leader, who would stand for the rights of the rich and the deprived. This ruler would be connected to the people through direct democracy, his independence pure from lawmaking and political bodies. Such political ideas matched with Napoleon’s idea of social growth and national un ity.Advertising Looking for research paper on history? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More The nation and its ruler had a loyal duty to enhance the economy and offer jobs, and not just offering provisional relief to the poor. These actions would benefit people of all classes. In 1848, many workers in the country took Napoleon’s social and political ideas hazily (Barnes 147). Many common people voted for Napoleon as they saw him as a strong man who was keen to represent their interests. In 1850, Napoleon experienced massive success in economic development. His regime supported the construction of roads and new investment banks which marked the phase of the industrial revolution (Barnes 147). His government, moreover, promoted general economic growth through an optimistic plan of public works, which focused on the reconstruction of Paris and urban surroundings. Business people experienced vast profits while standards of the working class enhanced. More jobs were available to the working class and their wages increased with inflation. Napoleon’s hope was that e conomic development would cut down political and social pressures, and this expectation came to pass. France experienced little opposition and more support from urban employees, in 1850s (Barnes 147). At this time, Napoleon III promoted credit unions and controlled pawn shops together with enhanced housing for the working class. A decade later, Napoleon allowed workers to form unions and gave them the right to strike, unlike earlier regimes. As a genuine nationalist, Napoleon sought to restructure Europe using the law of nationality over France territory. He was a unique leader as he always considered public opinion during his reign. In the 1860s, Napoleon liberalized his territory, though offering more powers to the assembly as well as increased liberty to the opposition (Barnes 148). Thus, liberty and democracy characterized Napoleon’s regime. His regime made sure that people obtained their rights as well as their needs through merit, but not bloodline, like in neighboring nations. In conclusion, nationalism was a significant ideological force, during the 19th century, and it had both moral and functional basis. The moral basis of nationalism is clear from the case of France. First, Napoleon used nationalism to unite the state against its enemies. Second, France experienced massive expansion as Napoleon supported the construction of roads and investment banks. His government, moreover, promoted general economic growth through an optimistic plan of public works, which focused on the reconstruction of Paris and urban surroundings. Third, Napoleon created more jobs for the working class and increased their wages. Business people, also, experienced vast profits while standards of the working class enhanced. Thus, the economy experienced massive economic growth due to nationalism. Conversely, the functionality basis of nationalism is clear from the case of Germany. Nationalism in Germany served both unification and disintegration purposes. Bismarck tried t o unify Germany using â€Å"blood and iron.† However, in 1864, Germany betrayed Austria through helping Italy in getting the Austrian property in Italy and driving out Austria’s control from the German union. Moreover, Germany destabilized Austria by supporting the independence of Hungary in the newly formed Austria-Hungary union. Thus, Germany showed both â€Å"good† and â€Å"bad† sides of nationalism, which forms the functional basis of nationalism. Power politics influenced Bismarck’s actions, although, it was clear that Germany would have disintegrated, devoid of a feeling of nationalism. Presently, nationalism is a mass movement as it continues to influence daily activities among nations. Thus, a study on whether nationalism is likely to continue forever, among European nations, is suitable to build on this field. Works Cited Barnes, Thomas. A look at activities that are beneficial in coping with cerebral palsy

A look at activities that are beneficial in coping with cerebral palsy Abstract Many individuals are born or struggle with some birth abnormalities. In this paper, cerebral palsy will be discussed. Cerebral palsy is a condition that damages the brain, classifying CP as an intellectual disability. This paper will discuss how CP affects a persons cognition and in that, affecting the way they communicate. An activity on communication management will be described using Cole’s 7 steps to breakdown how teens with CP will benefit from the activity. Occupational therapist play key roles in these types of interventions because they help individuals express and communicate emotions effectively and properly. Also, Allen’s Cognitive Disabilities frame of reference will be discussed providing reasoning supporting the activity chosen. Introduction: Group of 6 patients will walk into the room and sit down on chairs arranged in a circle. I will briefly introduce myself and say my name and my current mood. Then I will have the patients introduce themselves by stating their name and saying how they are currently feeling using a facial expression or gesture. Afterwards, I will conduct a small icebreaker that will allow patients to feel more comfortable about formulating conversation with others. I will have patients turn to the group member sitting next to them and start building a Jenga puzzle. Each Jenga wood block will contain a question both group members will have to answer about themselves. Each member will answer 3 questions and build the blocks. I will be walking around listening in and assisting the group members in answering the questions properly. After the time is up, I will introduce the next part of the activity, which is the Bingo Communication Card titles â€Å"Clever Communication Bingo†. I will then tell the patients to remain seated next to that group member because that will be their partner for the activity. Then I will give one Bingo Communication card to each group member and have him or her turn their chairs to face each other. Activity: I will begin by explaining the activity to the groups. So I will say, â€Å"okay everyone all eyes on me, this activity is a just like a game of bingo, for those of you that might not know what bingo is, bingo is a game where a coordinator calls out numbers randomly and the players mark off 5 numbers in a straight, horizontal or diagonal line, whoever is the first to match up the 5 numbers in a line wins! Now this time it’s a bit different, it’s the same idea but now under each number there will be a different form of communication, so some forms of communication you’ll find on the bingo card will be â€Å"tell your partner you appreciate them using 3 words† or â€Å" create a 5step hand shake† or â€Å" introduce yourself to peers using 2 sentences†. After I finish explaining how the game works, I will tell the patients that this isn’t a competition, everyone will be matching 5 numbers in a line, and that at the end each gr oup will receive a bingo completion award for effective communication skills. After that, I will begin to call out numbers and the patients will listen and check off with a marker the number called. Every time they check off a number they will have to communicate or express what is under the number checked off. I will give the patients time to perform what is under is each number and assist them if they get stuck in a thought or don’t know how to communicate something. After three numbers called I will congratulate each group for effectively communicating with each other despite constant assistance and let them know the activity is about to be over. Once every team completes a set of 5, they will receive the completion award. Sharing: After completing this activity the group members will sit back in a circle and share some thoughts about the activity. I will ask them to hold up their bingo card and point out which communication form was most difficult. Processing: I will ask the group 3 questions about the activity. I will ask each member how he or she felt about this activity and to give me an overall feeling about it so I’d ask, â€Å" how did you feel about this communication activity?† â€Å"Do you think this was a good way of trying out different ways of communication?† â€Å"Do you think this can help you in the outside world?†. After getting their feedback I will be able to see if the patients improved their communication management skills from the time they started the session till when they finished. Generalizing: After getting an overall feel of how the group felt, I will analyze the responses and seeing what drove the energy of the group. What were the difference and similarities in answers within group members. Open-ended questions will be most appropriate in this stage. Application: In this step I will give some short examples of everyday life scenarios in which these different communication skills will be applied. I will tell the patients how some of the communication techniques will be appropriate to use with different people like family members, friends and teachers. Summary: I will end the session by stating the most important aspects of this activity. I will refocus the patients and make sure they understood and learned some techniques for communication management with others. I will also encourage patients to try and implement the skills learned today in their everyday lives. I will make sure that they leave the session knowing that the skills learned and practiced today will be useful to them for the rest of their lives. Time and Place: Patients will be meeting in a spacious room at Keiser University with several windows that have a sky view. The room will be around 74 degrees making it nice and cool for proper concentration. I will assure that lights aren’t too dimmed nor too bright. All the materials will already be set up for patients ready for when they arrive. There will be tables’ spread out to assure enough space for activity and chairs made into a circle. And lastly, room won’t be overly decorated, this will help patents stay focused on task and not wonder around with their eyes.

Death penalty for specifically identified egregious crimes Essay

Death penalty for specifically identified egregious crimes - Essay Example Retreat From the Death Penalty†, it was revealed that more criminal justice practitioners and scholars have expressed increasing opposing arguments in terms of the effectiveness of capital punishment in servicing the paramount purpose for its imposition: deterrence and retribution. As emphasized, â€Å"a distinguished committee of scholars convened by the National Research Council found that there is no useful evidence to determine if the death penalty deters serious crimes† (America’s Retreat From the Death Penalty par. 2). The result was an apparent decline in the number of executions, from a high of 98 executions in 1999 up to only 43 executions in 2012 (Facts About Death Penalty). There are still a reported number of 33 states which were noted to concur on capital punishment; and only 17 were identified as non-death penalty states (Facts About Death Penalty). At the rate that the number of executions have apparently been manifested to be on a declining trend, only confirms that the national consensus against its continued implementation has been openly relayed. One strongly believes that capital punishment is not the most effective means for crime deterrence; since it only perpetuates a system of revenge through taking the life of the perpetuator. The preservation of life has been regarded as paramount to human values and beliefs and thus, killing and taking another person’s life, to replace one that was unjustly lost, does not justify the wrong that has been done.

Team Creation Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Team Creation - Essay Example The selection of the project team members will be done on the basis of this vital information. Next, a pool of candidates should be prepared from whom the project team members are to be selected. The selection process must consist of personal interview, group discussion, and if necessary, written or objective type assessment based on the project requirements. The project team should have some specialist members, supporting staff, and multi tasking experts. (Chapman and Ward, 2003) Team Building Strategies Effective team building can be critically helpful so that the project team leader may not have to face the problem of incompetence that may lead to total deadlock and unrecoverable down time. According to Chapman and Ward (2003), a project has a project life cycle, which is divided into the stages of conceptualization, planning, execution, and administration. During team building, it should properly be defined that what the team members are expected to do through each stage of the p roject life cycle. In the team, decisions must be based on consensus, team values must be specified, goals must be shared, and evaluation must constantly be done right from the time of team building to ensure better coherence and productivity. The team size should neither be too large or too small. (McGregor et al, 1966) Potential Areas of Conflict The cultural issues can particularly be important while managing a culturally diverse project team. Technical issues can create problems when the project team is diverse in the sense that specialists from different fields of profession and academia are taking part. Besides cultural and technical conflicts, conflict of opinion too can lead to serious problems. Racial barriers, personal ego, and lack of respect for each other are common in a diverse project team. The situation may become more complicated in the case expectations are unreasonably high and goals are not properly set. Techniques of Reducing the Probability of Dysfunctional Con flicts Some ethical values like respect for each other, dedicated participation, and mutual trust must be ushered in the project team (McGregor et al, 1966). Project life cycle provides the project team members with a framework that can be helpful in dividing responsibilities, setting priorities, etc. The way of doing things in the course of the project should be sequenced according to the project life cycle in order to avoid risk of confusion and dysfunction (Chapman and Ward, 2003). The basic questions like â€Å"what is management?† and â€Å"what is business?† must be answered in relation to the project with support from practical case studies. Tools and techniques like inventory control and networks of critical path can help in better decision making to avoid dysfunction and hence dysfunctional conflicts (Payne at al, 2004). Conflict Resolution Techniques Conflict resolution techniques should be available right from the beginning of the project work. Consensus bas ed decision making, proper goal setting, goal sharing, and integration of team values are the basic conflict resolution techniques. Mutualism, dedication, and respect add more emotional intelligences to the project team and hence conflict resolution techniques can effectively be based on the ethical grounds (McGregor et al,

Suicide In Our Society :: essays research papers

Suicide In Our Society   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Once every minute someone tries to commit suicide. Sixty or seventy times a day these attempts succeed.( Earl A. Grollman, Suicide: Prevention, Intervention, Postvention, Boston: Beacon Press, 1988, p.4) Unlike what many want to believe, suicide can happen to anyone regardless of race, age or sex. News reports, books and the internet all point in the same direction. We are undergoing a breakdown in our social roles, and suicide is the result.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  The first ever recorded talk of suicide was in 2000 B.C., when a man says that his life is filled with pain and suffering and he is contemplating taking his own life. Although attitudes toward suicide have changed over the years, it has not ceased to happen. The first suicide prevention Centre didn't come until almost 4000 years later. In 1774, England created the first Centre to try to prevent attempted suicides.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Suicide prevention isn't happening until it's too late. One high school, in a small town in Quebec, had four suicides in seven weeks. After these had happened, the school invited parents in to discuss suicide prevention. (CTV News 11:00 p.m. January 6, 1997.) These might have been able to be prevented if communities would assume their roles and discuss it on a regular basis and not have suicide be a word that is whispered but never spoken.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  The myth that those who talk about suicide will never actually go through with it is completely false. Most people who do kill themselves give some sort of clue before doing so. It may be something very subtle such as â€Å"I wonder where my father keeps his gun† or they might just come right out and say â€Å" I would rather die then go on living this way.† What ever it is everyone should know how to recognize when someone is feeling suicidal and get help to them right away. Suicide can be prevented if noticed at an early enough stage.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Suicidal feelings can be brought upon someone by many different situations. Someone with a terminal illness may not see a reason to continue a short life of pain, when they think they'll die soon anyway. Economical stress hurts more then just your wallet, someone may feel that they are a failure and that may bring suicidal feelings. The death of a loved one or the breakdown of a family can also cause these feelings. Because someone may fall in to one of these categories doesn't mean that they are suicidal, but all hints should be taken seriously. A cry for help needs help from a professional helper.

Meta reflection 2 Essay

â€Å"A mind that is stretched by a new experience can never go back to its old dimensions†. We could never go back to the past were what we did has already been done. When we discover new things you don’t see your old thoughts the same way. We add new information that will help us to expand and deepen our knowledge through our understanding the experiences that we had encounter. I saw too many things, I could never go back to being that old me that. I have experience adventures and the taste of life these experiences molds us by being an open minded person. I can never go back to that person who is full of ignorance. I was searching for wisdom and knowledge as possible. When I found them in philosophy I bathe with wisdom and knowledge combining them made a pleasurable account to my life. Applying these new found ideals, and fresh truths to my life adds new impact on my existence. I would not grow but I will surely have the drive, inspiration and motivation to want more of knowledge. My huge amount of ignorance is too big to became a marble, it’s the cause that the essence of my existences that stretches my mind to be active and be an open minded as possible. Change is constant and prior to my experience they have mold me. Many situations had come to my life with a synthetic a priori. I may not know that I all ready had this phenomena. Behind the knowledge I have know is the product of my studies and the cause of my studies, sometimes cramming can help boast the minds ability, push its power to the fullest capacity to acquire new knowledge. I can never surely go back to the quote that I have written to my introduction is that we or our own minds is expandable and learn so many things. the experiences that we all experience is the fact we are living the life of a being in this world that true reality resides and will surely be never disappear Subconsciously we acquire new experiences. Each time we do our routines and the normal phenomenon we don’t mind the fact that we are giving our right choices, our only one choice. It’s risky to live life but with the feeling of love that we feel its worth the fight and risks to live for in this world. The experience we gain is the interpretations of our lived moments in this reality. The beingness of being is the experience of being a being in this reality. We only live once and our mind is the one that makes the decision with our own considerations that we are beings in this reality. Only the wises gets the best of both world. Reality with experience is the main purpose of being in this world. We stretched our capacity and exhaust this mind of ours and gain new knowledge. By stretching our mind we can go beyond the normal capacity of things. The beauty of life is going to take up the challenges and ordeals that it gives us the power to marvel at life. Lived experience of my life is awesome, because I feel being loved, hate, and not taking life seriously. I thought at first life was so simple, I only have in that period of time a small amount of understanding in my existence. Know with philosophy and I am loving wisdom, I made a new decision that life is complex with many things to do and take it at hand. With that experience I can only reminisce the times but I can no longer go back. How could I go back? With a time machine? May be not its only a theory that time travel is possible. I don’t intend to go back to the past experiences my a posteriori was the best so why would I. With everything that I am and everything that I can do is the product of my experiences, they were the stepping stones that could not hit its wall of finality. Experience for me is cant be exhaust because we keep on experiencing from day to day of our life. We can never stop experiencing, it’s a fact I keep on learning and gaining more knowledge than before I know. I and everyone can never go back to the way they were before. We may not be the same as the past. I couldn’t know everything with experience, it’s the philosophers bases of everything that has happened. Without it what could be the progress of the world and the human world. Gaining new knowledge is the transfiguration of us we can’t go back to the dimensions that we once have reside.

The Great Gatsby Fantastic Movie - Free Essay Example

Sample details Pages: 5 Words: 1358 Downloads: 1 Date added: 2019/03/26 Category Literature Essay Level High school Tags: The Great Gatsby Essay Did you like this example? The Great Gatsby is one of the most impressive novels of all time. This novel is written by the famous author: F. Scott Fitzgerald in 1923. Don’t waste time! Our writers will create an original "The Great Gatsby Fantastic Movie" essay for you Create order The readers can not describe how meaningful this novel is. The Great Gatsby is a story told by Nick Carraway, who is Gatsbys neighbor. This famous novel is made into a movie which is released in 2013 by Bar Luhrmann. Most of setting and plot are taken from the novel. Although the movie and the novel are absolutely similar in remarkable events such as the party, death, and funeral scene, the movie has many differences from the book to depict effectively the messages that Fitzgerald was trying to show the readers. Some of the three major differences between the movie and the novel are the party description, Gatsbys death depiction, and Gatsbys funeral scene. The Gatsbys parties in the novel and the movie are depicted with magnificence and luxurious. The movie shows many things at the party as they are portrayed in the novel. Crates of fresh oranges and lemons, Gatsbys swimming pool, royal cars, liquors, bright lights, the crowd, the bustling atmosphere, and celebrities in the entertainment industry are clearly described in the novel and the movie. In both, the parties are large, but the party in the novel seems classical, and it actually is the 1920s style. By a seven oclock the orchestra has arrived, no thin five piece affair, but a whole pitful or oboes and trombones and saxophones and viols and cornets and piccolos, and low and high drums. ( Pg. 40) These musical instruments are commonly used in 1920 s. On the other hand, in the movie, the parties are more modern than the party in the novel. The atmosphere seems bustier than the atmosphere in the novel because the rap and the pop music are played during the party. Furthermore, the mov ie demonstrates modern dance. Actually, the splendor and luxury of the extravagant parties are shown more clearly in the movie of Bar Luhrmann. Gatsby spends most of his life to get Daisys attention and chase for her love. These extravagant and luxurious parties are celebrated for getting Daisys attention. He spends his money just to get Daisys love. Actually, he will do everything to achieve his goal which is to reunite with Daisy. With Gatsby, Daisy is the most valuable treasures in his life. When Daisy drives and kills Myrtle, Gatsby is even willing to sacrifice himself for Daisy by taking all the responsibility and blame. Thats the reason why Wilson Myrtles husband thinks Gatsby is the one who kills his wife. Gatsby then is shot by Wilson. Gatsbys death is portrayed sadly in both the novel and in the movie. In both, Gatsby is waiting for Daisys call and decides to go swim. However, there are few differences between the movie and the novels scene. In the novel, the author writes, Gatsby shouldered the mattress and started for the poolhe must have looked up at an unfamiliar sky through frightening leaves and shivered as h e found what a grotesque thing a rose is and how raw the sunlight was upon the scarcely created grass. The Chauffeur heard the shots.( Pg. 161) Gatsby is shot by Wilson Myrtles Husband while he is floating in the water, lying on an air mattress in the pool, looking up in the sky. Of course, plan to run away with Daisy is always in his head. Gatsbys death scene in the movie is actually different from Gatsbys death scene in the novel. In the movie, Gatsby is in swimwear, and he is still waiting for Daisys call. He dives into the pool and swims. After hearing the phone ring, he is climbing out of the pool. He looks at the phones, smiles, and thinks Daisy is calling him for the plan running away with him. Moreover, he also thinks he almost achieves his goals: run away and stay with Daisy forever. Unfortunately, when he gets out of the pool, Wilson carries a gun and shoots Gatsby from behind. Although this shot is surprised and hurt, Gatsby still has a smile on his face. Honestly, no words can describe how Gatsby loves Daisy because when he gets shot, he still whispers Daisy to himself before falling backward into the pool, and dead. He always thinks about Daisy. Furthermore, Daisy word is always important to him, and her name always appears in his mind and occupies his heart. Gatsbys death is not only a sad ending but also represents the ugly side of the American Dream. Gatsby does everything include the illegal things to get money, attention, reputation to serve for his own purpose and desire which is Daisys attention and love. He spends most of his life to love Daisy and what does Gatsby receive? The answer is nothing and maybe the only thing he receives is the loneliness at his funeral. The Gatsbys funeral also represents the decline of the American Dream. His funeral is clearly described in the novel and the movie. In both the movie and the novel, his funeral is a situation that nobody wants it to happen. It is so upset and alone. The novel and the movie both describes Gatsbys funeral as a disappointing and sad scene. In both, the funeral is portrayed in the sad atmosphere. Nick, Gatsbys old sport and best friend tries to call everyone in the town to announce about Gatsbys death. Especially, he tries to call Gatsbys close friends who he expects to attend Gatsbys funeral. However, nobody actually cares about his funeral. They are just willing to attend his parties, but when he passes away, no one wants to attend his funeral. Daisy, the one who Gatsby loves and sacrifices his life, is also out of town and leaves him alone in his funeral with no messages. She runs away for goods with her husband. Meyer Wolfshiem, Gatsby best friend in his work, also does not show up with a good reason even though they have a really close working relationship. All he has in his funeral is the emptiness, loneliness, and quietness as Nick Carraway sadly says, Nobody came. ( Pg. 174) In the novel, fortunately, his funeral still has t he presence of his dad (Henry C. Gatz), Owl eyes, a few servants, the minister, and Nick. They still respect Gatsby and care about him. Otherwise, Gatsbys funeral in the movie is depicted without any attendance except Nick. This scene in the movie is sadder than the novel. He is alone in his mansion and lying on the coffin. In the movie, there is only Nick goes to his funeral but not a single one of many people who attended and enjoyed Gatsbys parties spend their little time to attend his funeral. Those people just use his wealth drowning in wasted parties. This makes Gatsbys funeral becomes more miserable. His funeral scene completely contrasts to his extravagant parties scene. There is only the loneliness and emptiness in his funeral instead of the bustling atmosphere, the loud laughing, the melodious music. He has no real friends accept Nick. In conclusion, the party description, Gatsbys death scene, and Gatsbys funeral scene are described so differently in both versions to touch the audiences heart. There are still similarities in the novel and the movie. However, the differences between the two versions help the readers understand more about Gatsbys lonely life, and emphasize the decline of the American dream. It represents the ugly side of the American Dream as it is proven by Gatsby. He always pursues his dream to become a wealthy and luxurious man just to serve his own desire and personal purpose. Although he gives his love for Daisy, she doesnt attend his funeral and goes away with her family. The audiences are sympathetic for Gatsby who celebrates all luxurious parties, and spends most of his life for loving Daisy and sacrificing for his love, and the loneliness is all he receives from that. Both versions of the Great Gatsby give one valuable life lessons showing that money cant buy love and real friendship as the American Dream is eventually unattainable.
